President Uhuru’s wife will be hosting her eponymous annual marathon, First Lady Half Marathon, on Sunday 6th March 2016.
The aim of the marathon is to raise money for Margaret Kenyatta’s
‘Beyond Zero’ campaign which focuses on reducing maternal and child
mortality.
Alaine has confirmed she would be participating in the Sunday’s 6th marathon.
The Jamaican singer was seen hoisting Beyond Zero placard as a show of
confirmation to her participation in Margaret Kenyatta’s half marathon.an Heritage.It
was a glamorous affair at the Loresho Sight First Eye Hospital as The
Asian Weekly – in conjunction with title sponsors, Crown Paints Kenya
Ltd – held its third annual The Asian Weekly Achievers Awards (TAWAA)
2016.
First incepted in 2014 as in impromptu idea, TAWAA has grown
tremendously into a one-of-its-kind award ceremony for the greater
community.
The evening extravagance culminated what had been a full-blown campaign
by nominees across social media platforms over the two-week voting
period, ending February 17. The votes were then independently verified
by external auditors, RSM East Africa.

“TAWAA is a credible awards function that brings together different
communities as it celebrates various personal achievements, accolades
and hard work by deserving members and of our society as well as
reputable businesses. These are the active members who are trying to
impact the society through various roles in fields of business, sports,
philanthropy and socially among others,” began the Managing Editor of
The Asian Weekly, RavneetSehmi.
This year’s awards saw 17 categories feature, with over 50 personalities and businesses being nominated for the coveted trophy.
The Founder of Thakrar Financial Consultants, AnjliThakrar, took home
the ‘Best Business Icon Female’ award for the second year running, while
the ‘Best Business Icon Male’ went to Mahesh Acharya. The ‘Best Emcee
Male’ category saw radio-jockey-cum-actor, Vikash Pattni scoop the
award. Meanwhile, radio personality and an authoritative figure,
Caroline Mutoko won the ‘Best Emcee Female.’ Garden City Mall’s launch
was also voted the as ‘Best Product/Brand Launch.’The
evening was also noteworthy for two more reasons; The Asian Weekly
launching a refreshing new look and the advent of yet another
publication under the Greenstorm Media Africa Limited umbrella – The
Sunday.
Speaking on the refurbished new look for the publication was the Executive Editor of The Asian Weekly, Javed Kana.
“The Asian Weekly has got a much-needed makeover to further engage its
growing readership. We’ve got a blend of interesting features geared
towards enriching your weeks with the finest of news and information.”
Kana went on to add that the publication had modified its iconic brand
look, so as to increase its brand visibility and offer a fresh new
appeal, in tandem with the paper’s refreshing new look.
Capping what was an eventful night for various reasons was the unveiling
of the latest entrant into Kenya’s media industry – The Sunday.
The Sunday, a free weekly publication, is a product to appeal to the
masses by providing restorative tales for the betterment of society
amidst the negativity that often surrounds us.
In her address, the Chief Editor of The Sunday, Brenda Okoth said, “If
we are not sharing violent, depressing and emotionally-charged stories,
we are creating them…. I think it’s time to change the narrative.”
“The Sunday is a fun, entertaining and informative publication that is
dedicated towards sensitive, restorative, responsible and positive
reporting. We want to bring back some hope that they are still some
wonderful and inspiring individuals who want to change our country for
the better.”
The publication will be available at selected malls across the Nairobi.
